April 10, 2019 - 10:36

With the purpose of building a new educational environment where each individual is given the chance to express their own creativity and uniqueness, the Organization Board of the contest “My Website My Profile” – a search for young, talented web designers is targeting at creating a place for participating team to freely express their creativity from new individual perspectives on global issues. Above all, our contest aims to embody the “dare to think, dare to act, dare to be responsible” mentality of our future leaders. The topic of this year’s contest revolves around the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals, currently attracting a lot of attention from the young leaders aspiring to change the world, to make a difference, to build a better future for themselves and for others.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are considered the targeted ideal of of all nations and economies world-wide. The UN is aiming toward achieving these development goals during the next decade, until 2030. SDGs include 17 goals and 169 targets, focusing on different aspects of sustainable development, including: Dignity, Humanity, Planet Earth, Partnership, Justice and Wealth.

The principle of these goals is building upon the Millennium Development Goals (MGDs): poverty alleviation, universal access to education, gender equality, reducing maternal mortality, prevention of HIV/AIDS, malaria and other infectious diseases, maintaining a sustainable environment and globalization. Taking a look at the issues all nations are coping with, we can say that this is a journey aiming toward the development of world economy, society and modern technology, building the path toward a better future for every nation and every ethnicity.

So, who is going to stand up and take charge of the sustainability of our society? It is nobody else but our future leaders, a entire new generation moving forward into a new era of technology development.

Our purpose is to encourage participants to develop interest in the 17 SDGs, to obtain a positive outlook and a sense of responsibility, and to research solutions toward sustainable development, starting from small baby steps to creating enormous impact. Teky STEAM Academy, in partnership with the British-Vietnamese International School (BVIS) Hanoi, are determined to build an environment where young people from all over Hanoi can apply their technological skills in their teamwork.

Participants are required to:

  • Do research on one or multiple sustainable development goal(s).
  • Research or propose solutions for achieving the selected goal(s).
  • Build a website based off WordPress and design posters to present their research, discoveries and knowledge.

As a co-organizer of the contest, Teky STEAM Academy hopes to develop participants’ thinking and 21st century skills – the 4Cs: Critical Thinking, Communication, Creativity, and Collaboration, essential to grow into smart, intelligent young people who know how to take control over their actions, preserve positive traditional values and at the same time, never stop selectively learning from and adapting with global technological advances. This is the mission and valued principle of Teky.

To wrap up, we as the Organization Board, believe this contest to be an exciting experience for the young Vietnamese to obtain new perspectives and a different outlook on technology in the new era, global issues and the 17 SDGs, as well as to be equipped with the essential knowledge and thinking skills to become future leaders with a vision and strategies to build a better, stronger society.
